Seeing Cap and the crew.

Finals begin tomorrow for me (9am no less, pls don’t break down MRTs) so of course this is the perfect time to update on what happened last week. Huhu procrastination.

But yes, I finally went to meet Captain America and the rest of the crew last week! Okay, maybe see was a better word since the turnout was very crazy (all 4 floors overlooking the stage were filled). Me, Jacq and Val even had a little adventure playing peek-a-boo with the security guards as we tried to sneakily open the black drapes that covered the best view on the third floor. Why there were even drapes in the first place, I have no idea. It’s not as if without the drapes people are gonna topple the stage lights smh.

These are some of the photos I took:

Everyone looked really great in person. Especially Sebastian Stan homg he might just win the most-good looking person that night. Sorry Chris Evans. But Seb came out in this really lovely blue jacket and his hair was swept back and he looked like he had so much fun mingling with the fans. Anthony Mackie was amazing too though! Not only did he jump the ice-skating bannister to go into the audience (!!!), he also ran up the escalator up to the second floor, with puzzled security personnel following him hahaha.

Overall, I think it was a good experience. I didn’t get to see them up close but just seeing them is already meeting my expectations hahaha. Also one good thing about being small and petite is that you can sneak into places other average-sized people can’t muahaha. I actually managed to make a little seat for myself on the floor (cos I couldn’t get a good view standing and also I was tired of standing after 3 hours on my feet).

Afterwards, we were all pretty hungry and not quite ready to leave for home yet. Well, me anyway. So we made our way to Bugis/North Bridge Road to try The Ramen Stall, the first (and only, I think) halal ramen in SG! This was also my first time trying ramen so I was pretty excited.

One mistake I made, which the others laughed at haha, was eating the entire edamame pictured there. Yes, including the skin. I’ve never had edamame before and I thought they’re just normal peas which you can eat the skin of. But nope, it turned out to be very straw hay-like after a few chews which made it difficult to swallow. But the ramen was really good! Obviously, I had no reference as to what makes a good ramen but I thought it tasted wonderful. The soup is more delicious than the noodles though which felt like a homemade version of instant noodles. I’m so excited to try authentic halal ones in Tokyo in 10 days time! 10/10 recommend The Ramen Stall. It’s pretty affordable too at $13 per bowl with generous proportions (though that is before the service and GST tax).

So, yep. Last Thursday was a very perfect day for me.

Young Forever. #recommendationwednesday

Turn on CC for English lyrics!

I actually had something else in mind to recommend this week but damn it Big Hit and BTS just decided to drop this MV/comeback trailer out of nowhere last night at 11pm (midnight KST) so sorry guys this takes precedence haha.

As expected, I really love the song. To be fair, I didn’t really like it from the get go. It sounded very different from their past two mini albums. But listening to the lyrics again and I’m hooked. BTS always does this to me. Everyone sounds really great, it’s Namjoon’s first attempt at composing, Jin sounds amazing, and Yoongi sings as background vocals homg. Too much to take. Also, this definitely adds to the theories because Namjoon (the first guy in the beginning) is the only one that doesn’t have a flashback to I Need U/ Prologue/ Run? Not sure what it all means but yeah.

Forever, we are young

Under the flower petals raining down

I run, so lost in this maze

Forever, we are young

Even when I fall and hurt myself

I keep running towards my dream

BTS always have such motivating and uplifting lyrics to their songs. It’s part of the reason why I love them so much. Not even kidding, but their songs helped me through some of my bad days the past 6 months. Every time I feel like giving up, I turn to Tomorrow’s lyrics (link here) or Never Mind (and here).

I stayed up really late last night discussing with Syu over WA what it all means haha. I love the life of a fangirl. It really adds to the whole fandom experience when you have someone to talk it over with.

A full update.

Wooo~ I am feeling very refreshed after 4 days of not touching my work at all. I needed it after the end of my very last Hell Week in school. Also, I had the flu like I always do whenever assignments end. I guess I’m thankful that it happens at the end and not the beginning cos then it’ll really make Hell Week even worse.

Anyway, now that I’m ready to start prepping for finals, I thought I should update this blog on what’s been happening the past couple of weeks. I’m gonna make it bite-sized so that this doesn’t end up being too long a post.

I’m going to Japan/Tokyo!

Yep, this is really happening. Honestly when Amanda told me that she’s changed her mind and wanted to go to Tokyo (also cos her mother said she won’t be able to ‘treat us well’ if we went Seoul like we planned before since she’s on a business trip not a holiday one – her mother is so cute lmao), I wanted to cry on the spot. It’s just been my dream to go for so long and now that it’s finally happening, I don’t know how to contain myself. Not even sure if I want to haha. But yes, it’s happening! I’m going from the 6th-11th May which is 2 days after finals and a 6am flight no less. Which means I need to leave home by 4am. I don’t care, I’m finally going!

Also, I think it’s really a sign from above that I’m meant to go. Everything worked out really nicely (we booked our tix + accommodations that very same day and all done by communicating through Whatsapp lol). When we were planning for Seoul, I actually tried to get tickets to BTS’ Epilogue concerts on 7 and 8 May but I didn’t succeed. Korean fans are very hardcore in clicking lol. But yep, since that didn’t work out, I think it really meant that I wasn’t meant to go Seoul, at least this time round. Call me silly, but I truly believe it.

Singapore Forum 2016

Ahh this turned out to be one of the best experiences I’ve ever had! Now this doesn’t mean it didn’t cause me a lot of stress, cos it did. I was stressed from the get-go already, thanks to my perfectionist streak and the fact that the driver was late on the first day. But it all worked out fine – Dr Marty and his wife were very friendly, down-to-earth people and thank God they weren’t the demanding sort. Dr Marty was definitely one of the most popular people in the Forum though. He kept meeting up with people – even meeting with the Home Affairs Minister Shanmugam for a private dinner. But his speech on the second day was very illuminating. He really is very smart.

I had loads of awkwards moments though hahaha. From unconsciously moving away when Mrs Marty wanted to pet my arm in a motherly way to being a complete blur when Dr Marty called me on my phone. In my head, I was like who the heck is Marty I know no Marty lol. I think I came across as a bit of a blur that time but thankfully I managed to gather my wits together and end the call professionally haha. But yes, this was a really good experience for me! Makes me realise I actually enjoy doing this aspect of corp comms/protocol. Hopefully this will boost my CV a bit.

Game of Thrones Exhibition

Went to this with Syu! In the middle of Hell Week #yolo. But it’s worth it! It was smaller than what I’ve seen in the New York / LA versions where there were complete costumes but I still greatly enjoyed my time. What’s more, everything was free~ They had a photobooth with a green screen where if you pose just right, it’ll look like you’re petting Drogo. Obviously I tried it and they straight away send the image to my email! I’ll include it down below.

Image-1

Hehehe I look like such a nerd but I don’t care; I was in my happy place. Also they let you try this VR thing with the Oculus Rift where you’re going up on the Wall overlooking the view. Very cool. They even had 4D effects in the booth like the wind blowing as you get higher and higher. I’m quite impressed by the Oculus. It felt very realistic, especially at the end when you’re hit by a fireball and you fall to your death. The effects were so good that it tricked my body that I was actually falling. Very cool.

Last Week of School

I had a very enjoyable last week of school. Everyone felt bittersweet and we took lots of photos and ate lots of pizza. I even hitched a ride halfway back home (to Marymount MRT; 2 stops away from Botanic) from Eugene with Christabel and Harkiran. Friends who have cars are awesome haha. But seriously though, if there’s anything this sem or this entire academic year has taught me, it’s that not to judge people before I get to know them. And to be more willing to talk to other people, even if it’s cringe-y small talk. I’ve made quite a few friends this year and honestly, I’m surprised haha. I’ve never had such a large group of friends before so this is all new territory to me.

Stuff I’ve been watching/listening/reading

Even during Hell Week, I made time for myself to just watch/listen/read to whatever I wanted and I think that was a great move. I should have done this earlier in my uni years cos it seriously made me feel less stressed than I always do. So here’s a list of what I’ve been up to, entertainment-wise.

Watching: I finished watching Your Lie in April and omg feels. This anime is just too beautiful for words. Even though I got spoiled of the ending, that last episode still got to me. I also watched For Grace on Netflix and wow that was a really good documentary on a chef’s life. I didn’t know it was so stressful becoming a full-time chef! Currently, I’m watching Cheese in the Trap thanks to Sya’s recommendation and ahhh I am loving it so much. Such a pity I wasn’t able to meet Park Hae Jin like we planned yesterday cos I had a family event but he looked amazing during the Star Awards. I showed my mom and even she said he looks very handsome hehehe.

Listening: More Korean tunes as expected (Day6’s Letting Go, Big Bang’s Let’s Not Fall in Love etc etc.) but also Hamilton! I’ve seen it everywhere on my social media so I thought I’d give it a try, listening to the Original Cast Recording and wow, I’m blown. Obviously, I’ve been more open to rap and hiphop after listening to BTS but this is fantastic. A historical musical but with rap? I’m sold.

Reading: Been reading a lot of graphic novels/comics recently cos they don’t take up too much time and I feel more accomplished when I can get through them quickly haha. But I’m definitely recommending Seconds by Bryan Lee O’Malley! He’s the creator behind the Scott Pilgrim series – one that I haven’t read but I think I’ve watched the movie before – and it’s so imaginative and the art style is wonderful. I love how graphic novels and comics are not as shallow as what the general public perceives them to be. They actually deal with real-life themes and can teach you a thing or two. I love it, I love it.

Yay end of a very long post. Sorry for the ramble. My posts will be much shorter, and more frequent, from now on.

The last week of school.

Currently suffering from the flu but I’m armed with my piping hot green tea and Panadol Flu Max ready to start the day.

My mom said to just stay home since I’m quite sick but since it’s my last week of school ever (at least for the foreseeable future; a Masters degree is in my 5 year plan), I think I should just suck it up and go to class 🙂

Also, I’m almost reaching the end of my assignments! Currently editing Malaysia Politics’ group essay (lol this class) and one final presentation for Int Trade on Wednesday and I’m done! In my mind, I’m really not counting finals lol. I’m heading out almost every day of Reading Week so take from that what you will hahaha.

Was talking to Amanda yesterday about the end of school and how we both can’t wait for it to end but we’ll be very sad once it does cos it really is an end of a chapter in our lives. Life as a student is really all we know since it’s what we’ve been doing non-stop pretty much for the past 20 years. It’s a very #firstworldproblem I know and we’re privileged to have come so far in our education but still. Sigh, uni. I really have a love/hate relationship with you.

That said, I’m not gonna take this last week for granted. I’m gonna take lots of photos with my newfound friends (I still can’t believe how many friends I’ve made these 2 semesters) and make new memories with them. Also going to enjoy all the pizza the profs are gonna buy us this week hahaha.

This week will be great.

#yolo

Can I finish a 3000 word essay by tonight? Not counting references or final edits cos that’s way too much on my plate. I am thinking yes I can. I already have 630 words written out and if I pace myself properly, it’s achievable. Would it be a decent paper? I think so. ‘A’ grade material? Hell no haha.

It’s funny cos I used to take at least 3 full days to write a paper of this length (PS papers are so research intensive) but now in my final sem, I’m like oh paper due tmr? 3k? I can start later tonight hahaha. Not sure if this shows my writing skills have improved or I’m not that bothered anymore. I’d like to think it’s the former. I really cannot do anything half-assed.

I’ll update again if I manage to meet my self-imposed deadline! 🙂

EDIT: I did it! I actually met my deadline omg so happy I can sleep in peace tonight hahaha woooooooo

Legacies.

Today, whilst in the shower, I got to thinking about how we humans are so very temporary in time and space. The shower is always the place where my thoughts endlessly wander, I realise. But yes, I thought about how in the big scheme of things, what we do don’t really matter.

Usually this brings me to a crippling existential crisis (ah what fun) but today I thought about how we humans, despite knowing this, do our very best to leave some mark or legacy on this world anyway. That’s why people write. Or make music. Or do any other thing. We try our best to leave our mark on the world, thinking that it’ll last forever or that it’ll stand out in the crowd. We’re leaving footprints in the sand, vulnerable to being washed away by the oncoming waves but we think we’re carving statues out of marble.

It’s incredible, really. How stubborn we can be. How we refuse to give up, even when everything’s against us. Instead of feeling pessimistic about this nature of man, I feel encouraged. Even though we’re footprints in the sand, at least we’re not alone.

We’re all struggling together. And that is rather beautiful, I’d say.

Ah I don’t know what brought this on – maybe it’s the non-stop academic writing I’ve been doing but I do enjoy when my mind wanders like this. Am I making any sense? Is there anyone out there that feels the same way I do?

Just Come to Me. #recommendationwednesday

Taking a break from assignments and the semi-hiatus to post this song! Seriously it’s been playing on repeat for the past day and a half. I love the chorus so much. That melody~

Why you can’t
Why you can’t come to me, to me
I don’t know how to calculate or do push-and-pull
I just want you

Are you sure
Can’t you take my love, you
I will make you happy I will give you everything
Just come to me

The english translation sounds a bit off but I bet it made sense in Hangul haha #lostintranslation.

Anyway, I do have loads to update on just that I have not gotten the time to just sit down and write. I did get an extension on one of my essays though so that’s amazing. First time in my entire uni life.

Seems like I’m doing a lot of things for the first time this academic year. I quite like it.

Hopefully back to regular posting this time next week when all assignments as an undergraduate are over! 🙂
